Let's Get Acquainted
Ahoy and G'day!
This blog came to life after seven years of "road trippin'" adventures together. Granted, the Aussie had been out searching for and photographing the abandoned, strange, and beautiful for many years, and the Pirate joined in fall 2016.
Our first exploit together took us on a four-hundred-mile round trip that started near Phoenix, Arizona, and ended in Two Guns, Arizona. Along the way, we stopped in Black Canyon City (forty-six miles north of Phoenix on the I-17) and Twin Arrows Trading Post (120 miles from Black Canyon City and onto I-40/Route 66). It was this adventure when the Aussie learned that any trip up the I-17 meant the Pirate needed a stop at Rock Springs Café for their world famous pie! We ended up in Two Guns at the perfect time to see one of Arizona's gorgeous sunsets, which became the cover shot for the Aussie's first Abandoned Arizona book.
Since that time, we have traveled thousands of miles across the Southwest in the Aussie's trusty 2014 Subaru Outback (the real star of the show). We adventure for fun and to write books! The Aussie photographs and writes an Abandoned series and the Pirate writes (while the Aussie photographs) a Graveyards series. Between our regular jaunts, we both work day jobs at a community college.
As a visitor here, you are part of a fantastic community. Your comments provide us with encouragement, recommendations, and joy. We hope you'll keep in touch as we are happy to answer questions, provide clarification, or offer advice (the answer is, "YES, go on that road trip!").
